What we can help notarize
The notary's role is to verify identity, complete the requested notarial act, and record the transaction as required by California law. The notary does not determine the legal effect of a document or choose the notarial act for the signer.
- Real Estate & Loan Signings
- Purchase, refinance, seller, HELOC, and other loan document appointments for title, escrow, lenders, and individual clients.
- Trusts, Wills & Estate Plans
- Signing appointments for living trusts, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, and related estate planning documents. The document preparer or attorney determines execution and witness requirements.
- Power of Attorney & Health Directives
- Requested notarizations for medical and financial powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, and related documents.
- Acknowledgments
- The signer personally appears and acknowledges signing the document willingly. The signature may have been made before the appointment.
- Jurats, Oaths & Affirmations
- The signer personally appears, signs in the notary's presence, and takes an oath or affirmation that the statement is true.
- Affidavits
- Requested jurats for sworn written statements used in court, government, business, and personal matters.
- Certified Copies of Powers of Attorney
- California notaries may certify copies of powers of attorney under Probate Code section 4307. California notaries generally cannot certify copies of vital records or most other documents.
- Family Law Document Notarization
- Notarization of signatures on settlement agreements, declarations, stipulations, and other family law documents when a notarial act is requested. No legal document preparation or advice.
- Immigration-Related Document Notarization
- Notarization of signatures on letters, affidavits, and other immigration-related documents. SoHay Notary does not provide immigration advice, select forms, or prepare immigration filings.
- Documents for International Use
- California notarization for documents intended for use outside the United States when the signer or receiving agency has identified the required notarial act.
- Apostille Support
- Notarization and non-legal process support for documents that may need authentication. Apostilles are issued by the California Secretary of State, not by the notary.
- Hospital & Care Facility Appointments
- On-site appointments at hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, assisted living communities, and other care facilities.
- Signing Readiness Check
- Before the appointment, we can check for obvious blanks, confirm signer names, and identify whether a notarial certificate appears to be present. We cannot choose the notarial act or explain the document's legal effect.
Not sure what to request? Call SoHay Notary. We can explain the difference between common notarial acts, but the signer or receiving agency must decide which act is required.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Is there a notary public near me in Hayward?
Yes. SoHay Notary is based in Hayward, California and serves Hayward, Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Union City, Fremont, Oakland, and the surrounding Bay Area by appointment. Mobile service is available at homes, workplaces, hospitals, care facilities, escrow offices, and public meeting locations.
What areas does SoHay Notary serve?
SoHay Notary serves Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Contra Costa counties by appointment. Travel pricing depends on the location, timing, and scope of the signing.
What identification can I bring to a California notary appointment?
Bring an identification document accepted under California law and the complete document. Many common IDs may be accepted if they are current or were issued within the last five years. Contact SoHay Notary with the exact ID type before the appointment if you are unsure.
How much does a notary cost in California?
California permits a maximum fee of $15 for each signature taken for an acknowledgment and $15 for a jurat. Mobile travel, printing, waiting time, witness coordination, or other non-notarial services may be charged separately and are quoted in advance.
Is SoHay Notary certified for loan signings?
Yes. Shawn Silverman is an NNA Certified Notary Signing Agent, NNA background screened, bonded, and insured. Signing appointments are available for purchases, refinances, HELOCs, seller packages, and other loan documents.
Can a notary come to a hospital or care facility?
Yes. SoHay Notary provides bedside and on-site appointments at hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and care facilities. The signer must personally appear, communicate directly with the notary, and indicate a willingness to sign.
What is the difference between an acknowledgment and a jurat?
An acknowledgment confirms the identity of the signer and that the signature was made willingly. A jurat requires the signer to sign in the notary's presence and take an oath or affirmation. The signer, document preparer, attorney, or receiving agency must identify the required notarial act because a California notary cannot choose it for the signer.
Does a California notary issue apostilles?
No. Apostilles for California public documents are issued by the California Secretary of State. SoHay Notary can complete an appropriate notarization when requested and help with non-legal process logistics, but cannot issue the apostille.
How do I book an appointment?
Call or text (714) 627-9111, or email hello@sohaynotary.com. Appointments are available Sunday through Saturday from 11 AM to 8 PM, subject to availability.
